Claudia Cuentas is an artist, musician, therapist, educator and researcher. Claudia was born in Lima, Peru and studied theater and music since age 6. She moved to California and entered the Music Program at Chico State University, graduating with degrees in Music and Education.
Claudia moved to the Bay Area in California and studied with Anna and Daria Halprin at the Tamalpa Institute in Kentfield, CA, graduating from Tamalpa Institute as a Movement and Expressive Arts Therapy Educator . She worked closely with Anna Halprin and was first exposed to the Planetary Dance as a community ritual in 2007. Since then she has lead several Planetary Dances in Perú and in the USA.
Inspired by the power of ritual, and the similarities between basic ceremonial designs from North, Central and South America, she continued her research and studies with the elders of traditional practices from the original people's of the Americas.
She also continued her studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, where she pursued a Masters in Psychology and Drama Therapy. Claudia has worked as a somatic art therapist in California, Arizona, Oregon and Peru for several years with individuals, children, families and communities.
Currently, she lives in Portland, Oregon, where she offers therapeutic services to diverse communities in the area. Her focus is Trauma Recovery. She also leads workshops in cultural diversity and art as healing, as well as bilingual storytelling and song circles for community health and renewal.
She is the founder of the Canta Colibrí Project, an organization that supports the use of art and one's creative voice to restore health within the body, mind and spirit. She released her first solo album, ALMA ~ SOUL in May 2017.
